We’ve just released a new set of Guidelines & Checklist: Ethical and Legal Use of GenAI to Personalise Assessment Content in the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. This resource is specifically designed for assessors looking to adopt principles from the Caring Assessment Framework (CAF).
💡 Why this matters:
GenAI offers an incredible opportunity to move away from “one-size-fits-all” models toward culturally responsive and inclusive assessments. However, its use must be grounded in ethics and legal compliance.

- The “Human-in-the-Loop” Mandate: GenAI is a co-pilot, not an autonomous creator. No AI-generated assessment should reach a student without manual review by a qualified VET assessor.
- Academic Rigor: Personalisation can change the context or delivery, but it must never change the standard of evidence required. Every task must remain Valid, Reliable, Flexible and Fair.
- Data Security: Protecting students’ Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is non-negotiable. Only use institutional-approved tools and keep student data safe.
- No AI Marking: Crucially, GenAI must never be used to mark assessments, as GenAI tools are not qualified VET assessors.
